FAQ
Q. Are you always at the workshop and open every day?
A. No. I’m often out and about collecting parts, visiting the machine shop or the paint shop and so-on. I also have health issues so sometimes I need to take time off. It’s always best to make an appointment rather than just turn up.
Q. Do you provide quotes for work and stick to them?
A. No. When dealing with classic and older cars it’s often not possible to predict how bad a fault will be until work commences. I can usually estimate a ball-park figure and I can tell you about the cost of parts. I can usually provide an estimate but I don’t quote for work.
Q. If I want to work on my car in your workshop can I use your tools and equipment?
A. Yes. Generally speaking I will have all the tools you need to carry out your work. Sometimes special tools are required for your particular vehicle that I don’t have. If you have them, bring them along.
Q. Should I wear special clothing to work in your workshop?
A. Yes. Working on older or classic cars can sometimes be messy so wear clothes than you don’t mind getting very dirty or bring overalls. You must also ensure that long hair is tied back and that you do not have any clothing or jewelry that might get caught in moving machinery. I also insist on good strong footwear, with steel toe-caps. You work under supervision but at your own risk. I can supply safety equipment such as eye protection, ear protection, leather gloves and leather bibs.
Q. Are your premises secure?
A. Yes. The workshop is padlocked when I’m not there and entrances to the yard are also padlocked and covered by CCTV as are all roads into and within the site. However, you leave vehicles and tools and equipment at my workshop at your own risk.
Q. Do you have a breakdown service?
A. No. I have, on occasion, traveled to customers’ stranded vehicles to help out but I don’t at the moment have a breakdown truck or a mobile workshop.
